Kaleui Liimu initially started Finn Meats in 1965 after coming to Thunder Bay from Finland in the Fall of 1962, while on contract for Bay Meats. His son, Jukka Liimu began learning and helping run the family business after Kaleui purchased Twin City in 1969.
In 1976, the business was sold and Jukka continued on for a year until then moving to Western Grocer as an Assistant Merchandiser.
On January 1st, 1981, Jukka purchased European Meats & Delicatessen on Simpson St.
Expansion of the business continued throughout the 80’s, culminating to the construction of the production plant that still serves as the cornerstone of business operation and production today.
Throughout the years, production technology has continuously expanded. This growth has been the result of many European visits and courses; taking inspiration from Germany and Austria, enhancing the original Finnish-based product line.
